Happy Birthday Busy Bee

It’s hard to believe Busy Bee Cafe is already turning 4. The mrs and I have been loyal patrons for around 3.5 of those years. Any place can put in a little effort and have some great beer, but Busy Bee also has an incredible kitchen. I can admit that I’ve been drawn in by dinner and beer specials almost equally (and at least once a week).

As is tradition, the birthday bash consists of a tap takeover of barrel aged beers.

We started with a Terrapin/Busy Bee Peaotch and a Unita Sea Legs Baltic Porter. With our beers we had some Bruschetta to start. For dinner we had Scallop salad and Short Rib pasta (pretty much if you see anything short rib on their menu, order 2 or more cause damn).

Next we had the New Belgium Quadzilla on cask and I finally had the pleasure of trying Olde Hickory’s Raspberry Imperial Stout, Lindley Park.

It was well worth the wait and completely lived up to the hype. The raspberries came across more like candied berries and instead of adding tartness, they brought a subtle sweetness that perfectly balanced the bitter stout. Especially during NC Beer Month, I’m proud to say this beer is from my home state.

We split a Green Man Norwegian Wood Baltic Porter to finish the evening, which was also fantastic, another NC gem.

All in all, we had some incredible beers and food and were happy to fight the crowds for it. Here’s to many more birthday celebrations. Cheers
